Friends of Cominos House is an incorporated Association registered in the state of Queensland. 

The management committee consists of representatives from the Cairns & Far North Environment Centre (CAFNEC), the Visual Arts Association of Far North Queensland and members of the arts and environment community. 

They are tasked with the stewardship of Cominos House for future generations and to support environmental and artistic endeavours in Far North Queensland.

On 30 October 1991 "Friends of Cominos House Inc." (FOCH) was incorporated under the Queensland Associations Incorporation Act 1981.

The management committee is structured to reflect specific interest groups or major stakeholders in ensuring good stewardship and management of Cominos House. The management committee includes representatives from

 

  • The Visual Arts Association of Far North Queensland Inc.(VAA);

  • Cairns and Far North Environment Centre Inc. (CAFNEC) and 

  • Community members elected at a general meeting of Friend of Cominos House Inc.

The management committee meets every two months. It is tasked with maintaining the building and gardens, and providing access and support for Environmental and Arts groups from Far North Queensland. The running costs are met from rent income and hire charges from the Rose Blank Gallery. The Arts & Environment Centre is required to be run on a commercial basis, paying rates, insurance and general maintenance costs from income earned. The association leases Cominos House from Cairns Regional Council. 

The upstairs floor of Cominos House is permanently tenanted by the Cairns & Far North Environment Centre and Visual Arts Association of Far North Queensland (two lead organisation in their fields ), and the community space downstairs, is used for seminars, workshops and meetings.

 

While community groups affiliated with CAFNEC, VAA or FOCH are offered preferential hire rates, booking inquiries from other clubs and groups in the community are welcome. Booking information may be found here.

Membership of Friends of Cominos House Inc. is open and includes provision for Corporate members and Community Organisations to join.  A membership application form with current fees is available here.
